2nd R&G
Well, at the beginning of this reading we get the same dialogue that was in Hamlet, so that made it easier to follow and kind of catch up and realize where we were. Now we know that R and G we called to do something, but before we didn’t know what they were being called to do, but now we do. They are called by Claudius to come in and help Hamlet, either make him happier, or spy on him for the King to figure out why Hamlet really is depressed. In Hamlet at this time in the play Polonius has declared that Hamlet is made in ‘love’, which is totally wrong, but that is the conclusion he has drawn based on the letters has has seen from Ophelia. Then R and G are alone and being this very confusing conversation, which I do not understand.
They are like questioning each other about everything they say and I got really confused. The only thing that I did understand was that they were practicing what they might say to Hamlet when they start to talk to him. They go back and forth really quickly and there is an element of confusion because each of them gets confused at what the other says. The idea of repitition is also brought up, and they repeat what the other says and ask a lot of rhetorical questions. I think this may relate to their outlook on life and why they were brought to spy on Hamlet in the first place. The idea of the unknown is also something that could be debated because R and G think they know what is wrong with Hamlet, but then again why would the King and Queen desperately ask them to come and spy on him. I just got confused at their quick responses and why they were answering each other with another question.

So, so far the story has been really random. The two of them are tossing these coins and it always lands on heads. They get into this conversation about fate and probability and relate that to the outcome of the coin tossing. There seems to be some sort of tension between the two of them, but the audience is not sure what it is. They are also travelling, but they don’t know why they are sent on this journey. This whole idea of not knowing this may be a theme of this play and Hamlet. Since these two characters are acual characters in Hamlet, they are trapped in what they can do because their creation was in Hamlet.
It is really post modern because it is a story with in a story. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern is an elaboration on Hamlet. Stoppard was able to create his own outlook on their life between what happens in Hamlet. He also includes ideas about life and fate with the coin tossing, which is interesting, and sort of post modern. When they meet the players in the woods and the player mentions that their plays will take you into a whole other world and make you forget about this reality. That is what the whole story of Rosencranz and Guildenstern is supposed to do, and that too is post modern. I like this story so far and I think it is a nice way of heling the audience understand and make connections to Hamlet.

I love the outdoors. I feel them to be so reviving and nurturing. Just when you need some to to be one with nature and just get away from technology, people, and any other stressers you can just step outside and take a break. I find that to be such a relief and a nice way to either spend a Saturday or a weekday afternoon! I love laying out, for one, and I find that to be the best way to take in the sun’s rays, you know, get some vitamin D. I also love the beach! My number 1 favorite plave in the world is the beach, if anyone wants to know who reads this blog. I love being in the sun is the main idea here. It gives me energy, I think, and I love just being active and doing things outdoors!

For my paper I really wanted to focus on something different than I had in the past. I wanted to take my own opinion on something a really go out on a limb on that idea. Like really go out on a limb… I wanted to focus on the canterbury tales and Chaucer’s opinion of certain social issues while he was writing. I wanted to see if I could pull off the idea of having Chaucer believing that the Church of England was going corrupt and that society was too reliant on religion as a basis for society.I used the Miller’s Tale and Prologue as texuale support and all the biblical referneces that went along with that tale to hel me. I really wanted to get creative in this paper, like mrs. duke wanted us to because I felt it was a good opportunity for us to take our opinion on such good works of literature and make them our own in a sense .Hopfully mrs. duke will like my thesis because I already submitted my paper to the all share folder haha…

Everything I know:
plays were seen by all classes of people but the lower classes had to stand in the bottom of the pits right in front of the stage. Wealthier people had more of modern day boxes.
only men were in the plays.
the costumes were great. Men played women’s roles.
Shakespeare wrote 154(mostly about love) sonnets and 36 plays: he wrote comdies, tragedies, and histories.
Hamlet: He maybe a king, not sure. He has a father and his father’s ghost appears.
Drama:
conflict, plot, lying…

Have you ever felt trapped in your own mind; in a place so dark your own mind doesn’t know where to go? Have you ever had a hurt so bad don’t know it’s a hurt? There’s a place deep inside me, I do not know where it is, and I do not want to know where it is, but it’s there, stabbing me in the heart and mind. Sometimes it subsides for a day or so and becomes a solomn steady pain that I know is still there, but I can deal with. Most days I find myself dying, or so I think. I feel a hurt so deep I cannot move, I cannot talk, and I cannot breath. Only cry and scream help. A help that can only come within me, and that is what scares me the most. I must help myself. I must help myself when I cannot move, cannot talk, and I cannot breath. Laying in bed is my only vice and even then the word ‘miserable’ does not comes close to how I feel. My hurt inside is so intense, I feel helpless, useless, and a complete failure. The hurt will never go away as long as I live and I must learn to help myself. That’s what scares me the most.

The Wife of Bath’s presentation was really informative. I missed half of it because I was outside reading, but the part that I did see really helped me understand her character and the reasoning behind her actions. There is a lot of historical connections that could be made as to why she had 5 husbands and such, and why she preceded the way she did. This group did a nice job and were well prepared.
The Franklin’s tale group also did well. This tale was a little hard for me to understand as far as connecting the prologue to the actual tale he told. The presentations helped me clear up my questions. Their presentation may not have been that interesting, but it did help me clear up any questions I had.
The Pardoner’s tale was one of my favorites to read. This group did really well at anwsering any questions we had and I thought that was a good way to start off the presentation. I had some trouble understanding parts of the prologue in connection to the tale, but the presentation helped me get through that.
My group did the Miller’s tale. We had a powerpoint that covered the history, allusions, and a lot more of the in depth stuff that we learned while doing our activities.

So, the past couple days my house is being painted, like my whole house inside and out. I am not gonna lie, I feel like my house is not my house right now! It is such a huge inconvenience to have like 5 men, who are extremely large mexicans, walking around my house all day long. I am not trying to be racist at all, though. Do not get me wrong, me and the guys have had a couple of convos in Spanish, since I’m such a pro and everything(haha), and they are alright.
I came home today to a not so pretty sight. The entirety of our living room furniture, bedroom furniture, and all wall paintings were put in huge piles throughout the house. I can’t even sleep in my bed for the next couple days, which kind of angers me because I have to have my own space, you know? Not to mention the smell! I used to like that new house smell, an almost clean one, but now i dispise it because I am living and breathing it for at least a couple of weeks. It’s like my house has been turned upside down, literally!

So, sadly spring break is over and now we have that last long stretch before summer vacation is here! My friends and I went down to Destin for 5 days and had a total bast. The weather was great and we all got along surprisingly! haha. Exams are quickly approaching, and I’m pretty sure my AP exams are in like 10 days, which is really not good because I have not opened a book to begin studying. The plus is that those grades do not effect your final grade in the class.
Prom is also this weekend, which should be really fun! I haven’t been before, so I pretty excited. I am bringing Garrett, a sophmore. haha! There’s always so many festivities that go along with Prom and I am not really up for all that stress, but oh well.

My group was me, margaux, huye, and jordan. We were assigned to read The Miller’s Tale, which was told by a drunk miller sitting in a bar. The tale had a lot to do with courtly love, religion, many references to the bible, and a lot of irony. Chaucer did an excellent job at conveying how he felt about religion and the culture during that time because he used satire to highlight those aspects in the tale.
We worked really well together and got a lot done in one day! Everyone did their fair share of work, whether we were all together or not. I am not saying we didn’t get side tracked because we definatley did, but the job got done. We tried to be creative as possible when creating our activities with the hope that by being that creative we would learn a lot in the process.
